Hoeneß tight-lipped: "Couldn't do our bit"

That was nothing from Stuttgart's point of view. For VfB coach Hoeneß, the 3-0 flop in Munich was largely down to the false start to the game. Goalkeeper Nübel talks about his future.

Sebastian Hoeneß was taciturn in his reaction. His VfB Stuttgart's 3-0 defeat at FC Bayern Munich annoyed the coach, who had once led Bayern's second team to the championship in the 3rd division. "I can keep it short. We couldn't do our bit to make it a top match," said the 41-year-old on Sunday evening. Only one team was top in the Allianz Arena - Munich. And that's why the nephew of Bayern's honorary president said on Sunday evening that they "deserved to go home as losers".

The crux of the game for Sebastian Hoeneß was the first goal conceded by Harry Kane after just 85 seconds. "The game gets off to the worst possible start. And the start was decisive for the rest of the game," said the VfB coach. They had planned something completely different. Hoeneß preferred to look ahead to the final game of the year next Wednesday against FC Augsburg. With a win, the Swabians could round off their impressive first half of the season on a positive note and consolidate their Champions League place.

Alexander Nübel had also hoped for more from the performance in Munich. The goalkeeper, who is on loan to VfB from FC Bayern, looked poor when conceding the first goal, but at least kept his team in the game after that until the score was 2-0. "It hurt that we didn't perform the way we wanted to," said the 27-year-old.

Nübel, who Munich brought in from FC Schalke in the summer of 2020 with the aim of developing him as Manuel Neuer's successor, is on loan to VfB until the end of the season. "I feel very comfortable and really enjoy playing with the lads," said Nübel.

The goalkeeper was reserved when asked about his future. "There are many options, I haven't decided yet and I won't decide in the coming weeks and months," said Nübel. "I still have a year left on my contract in Munich. But I don't know what will happen in the summer yet."
