Soccer Bundesliga - Hoeneß makes it clear: Woltemade not a Guirassy replacement at VfB
Nick Woltemade stands out at VfB Stuttgart training due to his physical size. The Swabians have high hopes for the almost two meter tall new signing from SV Werder Bremen. However, trainer Sebastian Hoeneß warned against excessive expectations. "He is not a Serhou-Guirassy replacement," the coach said. "We cannot expect that and that was never the idea."
Striker Guirassy is leaving the Bundesliga club, as confirmed by sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth. Woltemade is supposed to help fill the gap in the attack caused by this. However, Hoeneß wants to give the 22-year-old enough time for this.
"He is an exciting player who has just left his first footprints in the Bundesliga," explained the trainer. Woltemade is already a "remarkable figure" physically, said Hoeneß. He is not a "classical center forward like Serhou," however. He can also fall back sometimes. In total, he has "real potential."
Woltemade scored two goals for Werder in the previous season and signed a contract with VfB until 2028. He is one of the eight external new signings of the Stuttgarter who started the preparation on Thursday. Guirassy scored 28 league goals last season and had a big impact on Stuttgart's vice championship. According to media reports, he is shortly before a transfer to Borussia Dortmund.
