Monuments - Historical documents of the restoration are presented
The outer shell of the Renaissance castle in Güstrow is being extensively renovated at a cost of several million euros. Historical documents and photos from the Güstrow town archive shed light on the history of the renovation of the 16th century building. Evidence of a restoration 100 years ago will be presented at a press conference in the town archive on Tuesday, including drawings by Güstrow architect Johannes Henning.
He was involved in the restoration in 1923, among other things, and today his granddaughter, Claudia Henning, from the Schwerin State Building and Property Office, is in charge of the work.
The renovation and restoration measures became necessary due to brown rot and dry rot infestation as well as moisture damage and cracks. The total construction costs amount to around 32 million euros, including almost 26 million euros in EU funding.

The restoration project, which included the repair of the outer shell, was overseen by Claudia Henning, a descendant of Johannes Henning, who played a significant role in the monument's restoration 100 years prior. The meticulous restoration process was necessitated by the damages caused by brown rot, dry rot, moisture, and cracks, leading to the reconstruction costing approximately 32 million euros, with significant EU funding.
