Historic path discovered during road construction work
A hundreds of years old boardwalk has been discovered during construction work in Fürth. This is an "archaeological sensation", the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments announced on Wednesday. The old path is now being uncovered, examined and documented meter by meter.
Road construction workers recently came across the path in the Burgfarrnbach district of Fürth. Fascinating relics from the past are coming to the surface with every meter uncovered, the report continued: buttons, horseshoes and even a silver coin from the early modern period have already been found. It is likely that the Franks of the early modern period drove their carts over the site.
The former royal court of Burgfarrnbach was mentioned in historical sources as early as 903 as "Varenbach". The road through the village used to be an important long-distance route between Nuremberg and Frankfurt.
The discovery of the ancient boardwalk in Fürth has significant implications for local archaeology, providing valuable insights into the area's history. This path, potentially used by the early modern Franks, adds another layer to the rich historical narrative of the region.
