During the 44th Leitz Photographica Auction held on Saturday in Wetzlar, a unique Leica camera with a black paint finish was sold for a staggering €1.56 million. The event's organizer revealed this exciting news. The camera in question was designed specifically for reportage photography and only six models were manufactured. It boasts the highest price tag of the auction.
Previously thought to be worth between €700,000 and €800,000, this modified version of the Leica M2, which first hit the market in 1958, is capable of snapping up to 3.5 shots every second with the help of a special electric motor drive.
A whopping 400+ vintage cameras and lenses, along with other historical photography equipment, were up for grabs at the auction. Renowned globally as the largest of its kind, this auction takes place biannually.
