Historic Karlsburg castle in Bad Ems in Rhineland-Palatinate catches fire

Injured, according to preliminary findings, no one was harmed. Over 200 response forces were on site. The building from the 17th century is currently being converted into a so-called Boutique hotel. According to the responsible architectural office, it should open at the end of 2024 as planned. The extent of the damages was not clear at first. However, the police spokesperson reported that at least the roof truss had been "heavily damaged".

The fire department was hastily called to the historic City Palace in Bad Ems due to the incident. Despite the severe damage to the roof truss, the fire department managed to contain the fire, preventing further damage. Surprisingly, the incident did not affect the restoration plans for the building, which is being converted into a boutique hotel. Upon visiting the bathroom, a worker noticed water damage, potentially linked to the fire incident, and reported it to the architectural office.
