Hilary Duff on her time as a child star
US actresses Hilary Duff (36) and Drew Barrymore (48) both said they had to get used to rejection early on as child stars. "There were so many moments where I felt like a loser, where I didn't get the job or where I was treading water," explained Duff, who played her first leading role as a ten-year-old in the film "Casper Meets Wendy", on Barrymore's talk show "The Drew Barrymore Show". "But I had to fill my life with things that were real, and that was enough at that moment."
Barrymore, who became world famous at the age of seven with her role in "E.T.", spoke of the strange situation for her as a child when she wasn't chosen at auditions. "I had such a bizarre relationship with rejection so early in my life that I appreciated what it gave me. Namely the idea that there is enough room for everyone and that competition is unnecessary," said Barrymore.
According to Duff, she has received so many rejections that she can no longer remember any of them. She had put them somewhere far back. Even today, she explains to her eleven-year-old son that it is "not worth holding on to" when she fails in sport, she said.
People often face rejections in their acting careers, as evidenced by Hilary Duff and Drew Barrymore's experiences as child stars. Despite several movie and television roles, including Hilary's leading role in "Casper Meets Wendy" and Drew's fame with "E.T.", both actresses had to deal with rejections. The media often highlights the successes of celebrities, but it's essential to remember that they too have encountered setbacks.
