Storm - Hiking group in distress on Tenerife - rescue workers help
Rescue workers in Nuremberg have helped a group of hikers on Tenerife who were in distress on the volcanic mountain Teide. A caller contacted them and told them that she had received a message from friends who were hiking on the volcanic mountain Teide on the Canary Island, as the fire department announced on Friday. The group was caught in a storm on Thursday and temperatures were dropping. The cable car was already out of service and a descent on foot was also not possible. For unknown reasons, the hikers were unable to make an emergency call on site. However, the WhatsApp message to Germany was received.
Following the call, the staff reportedly contacted the German embassy in Madrid and the police there. On Friday, the German consulate in Gran Canaria confirmed that the hiking group had been found and brought down to the valley unharmed.
