Finances - Higher bonuses for police and judicial officers

Thuringian police officers and public officials will receive higher supplements for work at night and on weekends and holidays starting in July. On average, they would receive approximately 770 Euro additional per year, according to a query made to the Finance Ministry, announced Sascha Bilay, a Left party politician, in Erfurt on Sunday.

"This increase in allowances represents not only a higher recognition of their work but also catapults Thuringia to the top of federal pay for policewomen and policemen in shift work," explained the state legislator.

According to Bilay, the state government recently implemented a resolution initiated by his faction in the state parliament and significantly increased allowances for "duty at unfavorable times." This was also a goal of the coalition agreement between the Left, SPD, and Greens.

Civil servants in regular duty and patrol service could expect approximately 566 Euro in additional allowances per year, according to Bilay. The greatest increase he calculated for the units of the emergency police - 1,063 Euro per year. "This measure significantly increases the attractiveness of the profession, especially in the lower salary groups, that is, for young policewomen and policemen," he added.

Concretely, according to the Finance Ministry, allowances for services on Sundays and holidays will be raised from 3.80 Euro per hour to 5.00 Euro, for night work from 1.76 Euro to 5.00 Euro, and for Saturday services from 1.05 Euro to 1.50 Euro per hour. In Thuringia, there are several thousand police and judicial officials, many of whom work in shift service. The ministry estimated the additional costs at around 3.4 million Euro per year.

  1. The announcement of increased allowances for Thuringian police officers and public officials during night shifts and weekends/holidays was made by Sascha Bilay, a Left party politician, in Erfurt on Sunday.
  2. This surge in allowances for working at unfavorable times, such as during nights and on weekends and holidays, has placed Thuringia at the forefront of federal pay for policewomen and policemen in shift work.
  3. As a result of this resolution initiated by Bilay's faction in the state parliament, the emergency police units in Thuringia can anticipate an additional 1,063 Euro in allowances per year, making the profession more appealing, particularly for young policewomen and policemen in lower salary groups.
