High jackpots lure lottery players in Saxony-Anhalt

The dream of winning a huge prize has many Saxony-Anhalt residents reaching for their lottery tickets. The Eurojackpot in particular has recently led to rising stakes. Lotto still has a quarter of a million prize up for grabs.

Gambling - High jackpots lure lottery players in Saxony-Anhalt

Exceptionally high winnings opportunities in Eurojackpot for higher bets from Saxony-Anhalt residents in the first half of 2024 reached the highest limit of 120 Million Euro in January, April, and early June, according to Lotto-Toto Sachsen-Anhalt in Magdeburg. The bets for these amounts were over 20% more than in the previous year's period. However, the classic Lotto 6aus49 recorded a deficit of nearly 7%. There was only one jackpot over 30 million Euro in this year, which occurred at the beginning of January.

Approximately 107.3 million Euro were spent by the people in Sachsen-Anhalt on Lotto-Toto products in the first half of 2024, which was about 2.3 million Euro more than in the first half of 2023. The betting amount per person and week was 1.89 Euro, which was three cents higher than the previous year.

Unclaimed winnings of 250,000 Euro

More than 250 high winnings above 5,000 Euro were recorded in the first six months. Among these were two million winnings reported by the state-owned lottery company. In early March, a player or player in Halle won 6.3 million Euro in Lotto 6aus49. About a month later, 1.2 million Euro was won by a winner in Magdeburg.

A player in Magdeburg won 305,000 Euro from Eurojackpot at the beginning of January. Another win of 250,000 Euro was achieved in the Landkreis Wittenberg at the end of April. This win has not been claimed yet, as a Lotto spokesperson stated.

The probability of cracking the jackpot, as with Lotto 6aus49, is around 1 to 140 Million. Players from 18 European countries participate in the lottery.

Twelve percent more spent on Rubbellose

According to Lotto-Toto, Rubbellose was also more in demand. The Sachsen-Anhalters spent approximately twelve percent more on it in the first half of the year compared to the previous yearly period.

A portion of the betting amounts does not go towards winnings but into the state treasury and charitable projects. In the form of lottery and sports betting taxes, as well as gaming taxes, about 40.3 million Euro went to the Land Sachsen-Anhalt in the first half of 2024. Additionally, approximately 4.4 million Euro lottery funding was used for 283 funding projects, such as sports projects like the renovation of training grounds and the acquisition of technology and equipment, but also cultural events, church renovations, and social projects.
