High demand for specialists for the nursery teacher profession
In Rhineland-Palatinate, there is still a great need for specialists in the childcare profession. 6,000 people are currently training for this profession, said Education Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD) in the state parliament in Mainz on Wednesday. However, as children are entering daycare centers earlier and earlier, staying there longer and have very different qualifications, more educators are needed despite a significant increase in recent years.
The Minister of Education rejected calls from the CDU parliamentary group for more practical relevance and a three-year dual training course as the standard for the nursery teacher profession. Hubig explained that there have already been part-time models in the state since 2020. In the debate, SPD MP Sven Teuber called for more men and more people with a migration background to be employed as educators. AfD parliamentary group leader Michael Frisch spoke out in favor of an expert hearing.
The Minister of Education discussed the need for more educators in light of changing social affairs related to early childhood education in the Parliament. During her speech, she highlighted the importance of addressing the growing demand for specialists in the nursery teacher profession due to evolving children's needs and longer daycare center stays.
