Victims of abuse - High claim for damages against the Archdiocese of Cologne

Before the District Court of Cologne, on Tuesday (13.000 hours), a compensation claim of a victim of abuse against the Archdiocese of Cologne will be heard. The woman is claiming 830,000 Euro compensation for the suffering inflicted upon her. She was formerly the ward of a priest, who was sentenced to twelve years in prison in February 2022. The man, as established by the Cologne District Court in 1993, had sexually abused nine girls in Gummersbach, Wuppertal and Zülpich for years. The woman claiming compensation was a victim in the 70s and 80s. The man was subsequently dismissed from the clergy.

In a similar case, the Cologne District Court granted another victim of abuse 300,000 Euro compensation. The plaintiff was a server for many years in the 70s, who was sexually abused by a priest.

  1. The woman seeking action for damages for pain and suffering is participating in processes at the Cologne Regional Court, relating to the abuse she suffered as a child by a priest in the Archdiocese of Cologne in Germany.
