Hertha's Reese hopes for a quick promotion to the Bundesliga
Striker Fabian Reese from second-division soccer team Hertha BSC is aiming for the top flight. "I'm an extremely ambitious competitive person. I want to play in the Bundesliga as soon as possible, there's no time to lose," the 25-year-old told Bild (Wednesday). The Kiel native is hoping for promotion with his current club: "We want to be promoted to the Bundesliga at the end of the season. That's unspoken, but it's in everyone's head. But there are still many steps to take to achieve this."
Reese, who had already signed a contract with the former first division club in the winter but was only allowed to move from Kiel to Berlin in the summer, describes the past second half of the season as "the biggest maturation process in my footballing career. It felt like Hertha lost every game. At the same time, however, I had a contract as a leading player at Holstein Kiel. It was a huge step in my development to separate the two."
Despite a mediocre start to the season and twelfth place after 13 match days, Reese has his sights set on the promotion places. "I believe that we can beat any team in this league with complete conviction if we can reach our maximum performance," said the professional, who has scored five goals and provided four assists so far. Hertha are ten points adrift of league leaders St. Pauli and seven from second-placed Hamburger SV. "At the end of March, a squad of five or six teams will be up there," said Reese, hoping to be one of them.
Reese mentioned his desire to play for Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga as soon as possible, given his ambitions and competitive nature. In order to achieve this, he and his team are aiming for promotion to the Bundesliga at the end of the season in Bundesliga 2.
