Soccer - Hertha's Klemens enjoys new position "immensely"
Pascal Klemens obviously feels comfortable in his new position in defensive midfield at Hertha BSC. "I really enjoy it. You have a different perspective on the field," said the 18-year-old, who is actually a trained central defender, ahead of the second division club's game against SV Elversberg on Sunday (1.30pm/Sky).
However, the Hertha youngster said that he doesn't really care where he plays. "I used to be a striker when I was very young. Then I joined Hertha and played defensively. In the U15s, I was a six-man for a season, and since then I've always been a central defender." He plays wherever he is put up.
In his new position, Klemens has more time and pressure from opponents. "But thanks to the match practice, I now have a better feel for the spaces. I'm trying to improve every day," said the U19 international. He is no longer as nervous as he was at the beginning.
On Sunday, Hertha will face sixth-placed Saarland for the first time. A crowd of 35,000 is expected on matchday 15 of Bundesliga 2. "Elversberg are a very good opponent, but they're coming to Berlin now. We've often been unlucky recently. But just like us, they also have strengths and weaknesses," said coach Pal Dardai. Klemens could temporarily return to his former position due to possible absences in the match.
