Hertha keeper Ernst: "You're allowed to bang the table sometimes"
Hertha goalkeeper Tjark Ernst appreciates the great responsibility he has at the Berlin club at such a young age. "Alongside England, Germany has the best 2nd division in the world - to be trusted as a young player and to be able to prove yourself week in, week out is not a given," the 20-year-old told the Berliner Zeitung (Friday). Ernst doesn't believe in being too reserved: "In the team, it's important to have the courage to open your mouth and communicate with people, even if you're younger. You're allowed to bang the table and don't have to pretend."
The German youth international has been Hertha's number one goalkeeper since the departure of Oliver Christensen and the temporary suspension of Marius Gersbeck. He can certainly see the positive side of the 2nd division for the development of young players. "The fans have also been longing for more players from our own academy to be trusted again. It's a win-win situation for us as young players, but also for the club and the fans," he said.
Ernst has been playing as the first-choice goalkeeper for Hertha BSC in Bundesliga 2, following the departure of Oliver Christensen and the temporary suspension of Marius Gersbeck. With his impressive performances, he's contributing to the development of young talents in the club, as Bundesliga 2 is known for its nurturing of young players, much like in the English league. Soccer fans at Hertha BSC have also been eager to see more homegrown talent in action, making it a beneficial situation for both the players and the club.
