- Hertha deflects a false start - 1 to 1 on HSV
Hertha BSC averted a poor start in the second division of the German Football League. A week after a 1:2 home defeat against SC Paderborn, the team of new Hertha coach Cristian Fiél managed a deserved 1:1 (0:1) draw against Hamburger SV in front of 57,000 spectators at the sold-out Volksparkstadion. Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer put the home team ahead in the 11th minute. Jonjoe Kenny equalized for the pressing Berliners in the 86th minute.
Fiél had to do without the long-term injured Fabian Reese and Kevin Sessa, as well as the injured Michael Cuisance. After an energetic start by Berlin, the hosts took control and scored with their first chance.
Bakery Jatta broke through on the right and crossed to the unmarked Königsdörffer, who had no trouble scoring his third goal for Hamburg this season (11'). Fifteen minutes later, Hertha goalkeeper Tjark Ernst saved his team from going two down with a brilliant save against Ludovit Reis.
Fierce Hertha after the break
After the break, Hertha pushed for an equalizer and created several chances. Linus Gechter hit the post in the 58th minute. Hertha remained dominant and pressed high, with Hamburg rarely managing counterattacks. Substitute Immanuel Pherai missed the potential winning goal with a free kick that hit the post in the 85th minute, and Kenny then scored the deserved equalizer.
Despite the absence of key players, Hertha BSC managed to hold HSV to a draw, with Jonjoe Kenny equalizing in the 86th minute, following a strong performance by the Berlin team after the break. This result marked a turnaround for Hertha after their recent defeat against SC Paderborn.
In the thrilling encounter between Hertha and HSV, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer scored for the hosts in the 11th minute, assisted by Bakery Jatta, and later, Kenny leveled the score for Hertha, ensuring that HSV's HSV was not able to secure a win due to their poor counterattacking performance following Hertha's pressure.
