Bundesliga 2 - Hertha BSC only 0:0 against bottom team Osnabrück
Hertha BSC extended their unbeaten streak to nine games, but missed out on the three points they had planned for against bottom club VfL Osnabrück. Without their guarantor of success Fabian Reese, who was suffering from a cold, the Berliners were unable to get past 0-0 at the end of the first half of the 2nd Bundesliga season on Saturday. Hertha attacker Florian Niederlechner (84) was shown the red card for rough play.
However, after Saturday's draw in front of 43,650 spectators at the Olympiastadion, the Berliners are still within sight of the relegation places and can tackle a direct return to the Bundesliga after the short Christmas break. Promoted Osnabrück picked up another point against a top team after their 1-1 draw against St. Pauli, but remain bottom of the table.
Osnabrück did not play like a certain relegation candidate. Hertha were slow to find their rhythm, but then had several chances through Haris Tabakovic (10th/25th), Marc-Oliver Kempf (38th) and, above all, Reese substitute Derry Scherhant (45th +1st).
The Berliners were also unable to capitalize on their superiority in the second half. Reese lacked dynamism in attack. Fan favorite and social media star Nader El-Jindaoui was unable to force the win on his second league debut. Niederlechner was sent off after video evidence following a kick to the shin of his opponent.
