- Hertha BSC is confronting Icelandic wing player Thorsteinsson
Hertha BSC, a mid-tier football club, has picked up Icelandic winger Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson. The 25-year-old is moving over from Belgian top-tier team Oud-Heverlee Leuven, as confirmed by the Berlin-based club. He's signed till 2027.
"We've kept an eye on Jon for quite some time now. He's shown his skills in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League with plenty of goal contributions, and also in 37 international matches with the national team," said Hertha's sporting director, Benjamin Weber.
Thorsteinsson mainly operates on the left wing, a position that Hertha has been lacking since Fabian Reese's injury. Furthermore, there's a possibility that the 26-year-old might depart for the Bundesliga. Thorsteinsson is the second Icelander to join Hertha, following Eyjolfur Sverrisson, who played for the club from 1995 to 2003.
Training Update
Following the ink drying on his contract, the new recruit was promptly invited to training. After a day off on Monday, Hertha manager Cristian Fièl gathered the team on Tuesday to kickstart preparations for the away game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern (20:30 CET, live on Sky). Apart from Thorsteinsson, youth player Sebastian Weiland also participated in his first training session with the senior squad. Meanwhile, Jeremy Dudziak only participated in individual training sessions.**
Thorsteinsson's signing is a boost for Hertha BSC's attacking options, given his proficiency in Soccer and his impressive goal contributions in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. His ability on the left wing, a position Hertha has been struggling to fill since Fabian Reese's injury, will undoubtedly be beneficial.
