Award - Herrmann-Wick and her meeting with the "Bergdoktor"
Denise Herrmann-Wick couldn't stop beaming. On Sunday evening in Baden-Baden, the 34-year-old former biathlete was not only delighted to receive the award for Sportswoman of the Year 2023 - but also to receive the golden trophy from her "Bergdoktor" from the ZDF show of the same name. Actor Hans Sigl (54) took to the large Kurhaus stage full of energy and said to Herrmann-Wick, who is a big fan of the show: "I'm proud to be here. You are the first Olympic champion I have ever met."
Herrmann-Wick ended her active career after last season and will become a mother for the first time in 2024. Actor Sigl invited the family around Herrmann-Wick, husband Thomas Wick and the offspring to Austria for the filming. "The three of you are spending some time with us," said Sigl. Details about a possible guest role in the show would be "discussed at length".
At the winners' press conference, the Saxon later said of her award: "It's a huge recognition. There are so many great achievements. You meet at eye level. We all live the sport together." She says she likes to keep her trophies in a cleaning cupboard. "The trophies have moved out in the meantime, but now they're back in there. I really like cleaning, so it's a good place for me," said Herrmann-Wick in the Kurhaus.
