Municipalities - Herrenberg elects Nico Reith as new mayor

Nico Reith (non-party) has won the mayoral election in Herrenberg (Böblingen district). According to preliminary election results, he achieved 72.48 percent of the vote, as the town announced on its website on Sunday evening. Reith thus succeeds Thomas Sprißler (Free Voters). He did not stand for re-election after two terms in office.

The 32-year-old public administrator has been working as the mayor's personal assistant and head of the Steering and Communications department in Herrenberg since 2017.

In addition to Reith, two men and one woman had thrown their hats into the ring. All candidates are non-partisan, as a city spokeswoman said beforehand. Entrepreneur Thomas Werner followed Reith with 16.42 percent of the vote, according to city figures. Hubert Reichardt came third with 7.98 percent and Diana Kobrow fourth with 2.27 percent.

According to the city, around 25,000 people were eligible to vote. The voter turnout was 41.04 percent.
