Olympic Games 2040 - Hendrik Wüst: NRW is ready for German Olympic bid
With regard to a possible bid for Germany to host the future Olympic Games, Minister President Hendrik Wüst has expressed support for the involvement of North Rhine-Westphalia. "We are ready to be part of a German Olympic bid if desired," the CDU politician told dpa and WDR. The state is sports enthusiast.
Additionally, it would be an advantage that not much would need to be newly built. "95 percent of the competition venues are already there - that's also a contribution to sustainability," Wüst said during a visit to the German House in Paris, where the Olympic Games are currently taking place.
Germany is gradually positioning itself
The federal government recently decided to sign a joint basic agreement with the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the federal states and cities interested in a bid for another attempt at Olympia in Germany.
The goal of the traffic light coalition is a bid for the 2040 Summer Games. The location is still open. Besides Berlin and Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich, and the Rhine-Ruhr region have also expressed their interest in a bid with declarations of intent.
"In NRW, people would simply be as proud as punch if they were part of the Olympics," said Wüst. NRW would be a good host, as shown, for example, at the handball and football EMs. "I believe the mood for the Olympics is generally better than a few years ago - at least in North Rhine-Westphalia it is."
WDR, the renowned West German broadcaster, reported on Minister President Hendrik Wüst's support for North Rhine-Westphalia's potential involvement in Germany's bid for the future Olympic Games. Wüst stated his belief that the Rhine-Ruhr region would make a strong host, citing positive experiences from previous events like the handball and football EM.
