Help too late after collapse during triathlon? - Process
Did paramedics fail to treat a collapsed triathlete properly and in good time? The Higher Regional Court in Dresden will deal with this question on Wednesday (29.11.). The plaintiff took part in a recreational triathlon in Moritzburg (Meißen district) in 2017 and collapsed shortly after crossing the finish line, the Dresden Higher Regional Court explained on Monday. He was of the opinion that the emergency services had treated him too late and incorrectly. In addition, the emergency doctor should have been called earlier.
According to the information provided, the man was in a life-threatening condition after the collapse. He was then unable to work for more than two months, it was said.
The defendants - triathlon organizers and paramedics - contradict the athlete. According to their account, the paramedics had done everything necessary to help the triathlete, they said. The care of the man had also proved difficult because the plaintiff had initially refused treatment. The regional court had rejected the claim, as the OLG further stated.
Despite the athlete's accusations of delayed and incorrect treatment, the paramedics argued that they had performed all necessary processes to aid him during his leisure time activity. Regrettably, the man's health suffered significantly, leading him to be absent from work for over two months due to his condition.
