Help against crime: "Aktenzeichen XY" awards prizes

Four courageous and committed people have been awarded a prize by the ZDF program "Aktenzeichen XY...Ungelöst" for their efforts against criminals. The "XY Prize - Together against Crime", each worth 10,000 euros, was presented to them on Thursday in the ZDF capital studio in Berlin.

In her speech, Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) praised the two women and two men, who all come from North Rhine-Westphalia, for their "courage and cleverness" in taking a courageous stand against crime. They were role models who "acted when others were in need". Faeser called on all people: "Look if something seems strange to you. And call for help."

In the first case, a woman rescued another woman from the violence of a rapist in Aachen in 2022. In the second case, a parcel carrier from Syria in Mülheim courageously intervened when a mentally ill perpetrator almost stabbed an old woman with a knife. He pursued and overpowered the perpetrator in order to protect other people.

And on New Year's Eve 2022, a man and a woman independently saved the life of a homeless man in Bochum by calling the police. Two perpetrators had beaten and tortured the homeless man for more than two hours. According to the police, over 50 witnesses saw the crime and did not intervene.

On November 29, the winners will be guests on the live show "Aktenzeichen XY...Ungelöst" and talk to presenter Rudi Cerne about their actions.

The recognition of their bravery extends beyond the television show, as these award-winning individuals continue to serve as inspirations in combating crime in their communities. The impact of their actions against crime was recently highlighted on a popular television series, which has dedicated an entire episode to explore their remarkable stories.
