The Cologne writer Elke Heidenreich finds modern sensitivities vexing. "Nowadays, everything is ultra-woke, extremely anxious, and intrusively bothersome," said the 81-year-old in the podcast "Die Wochentester" of "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger" and Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland in a chat with Wolfgang Bosbach and Christian Rach. Elke elaborated, "These days, we live in rather anxious times, and I'd probably need to explain myself for every third sentence I say. And I don't feel like doing that anymore."

Elke Heidenreich, whose recent successful publication "Altern" (Alternatives) made headlines, has previously vocalized her thoughts regarding 'wokeness' or sensitivity towards discrimination, particularly in language, in a less-than-positive light.
