Soccer Bundesliga - Heidenheim starts its first training camp in South Tyrol
The 1. FC Heidenheim has started its first of two training camps before its second season in the Football-Bundesliga. In Natz-Schabs in South Tyrol, trainer Frank Schmidt can work with most of his squad until coming Wednesday. New signing Julian Niehues is missing in Italy, as he is still in rehabilitation from a cruciate ligament tear with 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
"The peaceful situation and the immediate proximity to the hotel to the training ground make Natz-Schabs a perfect environment for us," explained Schmidt. The pros will work there in up to three training sessions per day, both in the athletic and footballing aspects. Moreover, the Heidenheimer will play a friendly match against a regional selection on Saturday (15.30 Uhr).
After the week in South Tyrol, FCH still has six more test matches planned. The highlight is the game against the Spanish LaLiga newcomer Espanyol Barcelona on August 10 (15.30 Uhr) in the Heidenheimer Voith-Arena. Before that, a second training camp is planned from July 28 to August 4 in Mils in Tyrol.
Heidenheim starts the new season with the first round game in the DFB-Pokal against the Regionalliga promotion side FC 08 Villingen on August 17 (15.30 Uhr).
