- Heavy rain in Aurich - Hospital and nursing home affected
Heavy thunderstorms in East Frisia led to hundreds of fire department deployments in the evening. Especially the city of Aurich was affected, a spokesperson for the operations center in Wittmund said. A nursing home had to be evacuated. The number of people affected was initially unknown. A hospital was also severely hit by the storm. Firefighters and Technical Relief Agency personnel were trying to pump out the basement to prevent evacuation. "Sandbags are being brought in," the spokesperson said.
The heavy rains and strong winds from the approaching Hurricane caused further damage in East Frisia. Despite the effort to pump out the basement, the hospital continued to be at risk of evacuation due to flooding.
