Beginning around noon in Baden-Württemberg, there's a heightened chance of local thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain. Hail showers are also possible. Initially, the western area of the state will stay relatively dry, but brief showers and individual thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon. Temperatures will range from 19 to 24 degrees, and in Lausitz and Lower Bavaria, the heat could reach as high as 26 degrees.
As per the forecast, Monday night is expected to bring intermittent, sometimes prolonged, and locally heavy rain from the northwest to the southeast, accompanied by thunderstorms.
The preceding Sunday witnessed heavy rainfall, resulting in flooding in certain parts of northern Germany. This, in turn, led to road closures. The Lübeck fire department shared that they responded to 105 weather-related incidents in a statement, most of which involved pumping out water. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
In the Lasbek-Gut community in Schleswig-Holstein, lying northeast of Hamburg, a river broke its banks, flooding a long stretch of road. Around 15 to 20 inhabitants had to be evacuated from their homes, according to the German Press Agency's Wehrführer Sven Oberkofler. The water peaked at a height of 75 centimeters, warranting the use of boats from the German Life-Saving Association. To the south of Hamburg, flooding occurred as well. The fire department's website noted several interventions for difficulties like flooded cellars.
On the A19 and A20 highways in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, storms caused a series of accidents on Sunday. While one person sustained a mild injury, there were no further consequences.
