- Heavy metal festival in Wacken is starting
In the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, the heavy metal festival W:O:A, also known as Wacken Open Air, kicks off officially on Wednesday. 85,000 fans from around the world are expected. Tickets have been sold out for almost a year, having been snapped up in just four and a half hours. The festival runs until Saturday.
On the first day, tradition dictates that the Wacken fire brigade band performs. In the afternoon, the so-called infield is opened, the area in front of the two main stages. Acts include comedian Bülent Ceylan with his band and In Extremo.
W:O:A is considered one of the largest heavy metal festivals worldwide. For several days, the community of 2,000 inhabitants becomes the epicenter of the scene, with thousands of fans. One of the headliners is Scorpions. Other expected acts include Korn, Blind Guardian, Extrabreit, Suzi Quatro, and Gene Simmons, who was previously the singer and bassist of Kiss and is now touring with his solo band.
The sound of music echoes throughout the Wacken Open Air festival, attracting metalheads from all corners of the globe. During their stay, fans can enjoy performances from renowned artists like Scorpions, Korn, and Gene Simmons.
