Traffic - Heavy goods vehicle collides with bridge: long closures
A truck carrying an excavator has collided with a bridge on Nuremberg's south-west bypass. The affected section of the highway will remain closed until the evening hours, said a police spokesman. The collision also had an impact on the B14 federal highway above it: only one lane was open in both directions. In addition, traffic over 2.8 tons is blocked there.
The low-loader loaded with a large chain excavator was reportedly traveling in the direction of Feucht (district of Nürnberger Land) on Thursday morning when the excavator's boom collided with the bridge. The force of the impact caused the excavator, which weighed several tons, to slide off the trailer on one side.
According to initial estimates, the excavator sustained six-figure damage, the police said. The damage to the bridge could not initially be quantified. The 22-year-old driver was uninjured. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
