Football: A popular global sport - Heavy fine: Werder needs to pay 77,000 euros to the DFB.
The German Football Association's Sports Court has fined Bundesliga team Werder Bremen 77,000 euros for the misbehavior of their fans. On Monday, they declared that 25,000 euros of this sum should be used for preventative measures that are yet to be proven to the DFB.
The sanction comes as a result of two incidents, one happening during the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach and another in the match against 1. FC Union Berlin. In Gladbach on December 15, 2023, over 30 Bengal fires were lit, while in Berlin, at least 20 were ignited on March 16, resulting in a two-minute interruption at the beginning of the second half, a situation that occurred once more in the 63rd minute.
