Heavy downpours and thunderstorms: Inundated basements and roads

Severe storms with heavy rainfall brought about various fire and police interventions in eastern and southern Bavaria on Tuesday night. Nonetheless, the police manage to handle the situation and no one was injured.

Weather event brings gusty winds and rain. - Heavy downpours and thunderstorms: Inundated basements and roads

In Niederbayern, heavy rainfall caused floods in basements and streets, mainly in Straubing. There were also floods in Upper Bavaria, according to a police spokesman. Weilheim and Rosenheim were particularly affected. In Gars am Inn, a sawmill caught fire on Monday night, and the police suspected a lightning strike as the cause.

Monday evening saw a disruption in electricity supply in parts of Augsburg due to a lightning strike, as reported by the police on Tuesday morning. Two transformer stations were disabled, causing a power outage, according to the city's utilities. Residents in the city center and the eastern side of Augsburg were deprived of power for an hour or so.

The German Meteorological Service (DWD) had issued a severe weather warning for Monday evening in Swabia and Upper Bavaria. The warning included possible instances of uprooted trees, damaged power lines, cranes, landslides, and aquaplaning.

The storm brought about numerous accidents on Bavarian roads, with the police urging drivers to exercise caution. The flooding in Straubing led to the closure of several streets, causing traffic disruptions. The fire department in Lower Bavaria was called to multiple emergency situations due to the weather event.

The police operation in Upper Bavaria continued into Tuesday, with authorities investigating the damage caused by the thunderstorm. The storm also affected the city of Weilheim, where power outages were reported due to downed power lines.

Residents in Augsburg, located in Lower Bavaria, were affected by the flooding as well, with several properties reporting water damage. The Police in Augsburg had to deal with numerous emergency calls due to the weather event.

The severe weather warning issued by the German Meteorological Service (DWD) also included parts of Bavaria, warning of possible hailstorms and strong winds. The storm also brought about disruptions in the train services in Bavaria, causing delays and cancellations.
