In Niederbayern, heavy rainfall caused floods in basements and streets, mainly in Straubing. There were also floods in Upper Bavaria, according to a police spokesman. Weilheim and Rosenheim were particularly affected. In Gars am Inn, a sawmill caught fire on Monday night, and the police suspected a lightning strike as the cause.
Monday evening saw a disruption in electricity supply in parts of Augsburg due to a lightning strike, as reported by the police on Tuesday morning. Two transformer stations were disabled, causing a power outage, according to the city's utilities. Residents in the city center and the eastern side of Augsburg were deprived of power for an hour or so.
The German Meteorological Service (DWD) had issued a severe weather warning for Monday evening in Swabia and Upper Bavaria. The warning included possible instances of uprooted trees, damaged power lines, cranes, landslides, and aquaplaning.
