- Heat Tuesday follows thunderstorm Wednesday

After a Tuesday with an official heat warning, residents of Thuringia can expect some relief in the coming days. From Wednesday afternoon, the German Weather Service (DWD) predicts showers and thunderstorms for Thuringian regions. Heavy rain and gusts of wind are also possible, a DWD spokesperson said. Earlier, temperatures on Wednesday reached up to 33 degrees.

Tuesday could potentially mark the peak of summer heat, with temperatures reaching up to 35 degrees, according to the DWD spokesperson. After the thunderstorms on Wednesday, temperatures will drop slightly, ranging between 26 and 30 degrees. Showers are still possible on Thursday. Friday should be suitable for a visit to the swimming pool, with meteorologists expecting longer periods of sunshine and only a slight chance of showers. For the weekend, experts predict more clouds and a significant drop in temperatures.

The expected showers on Wednesday should also ease the situation in Thuringia's forests: Currently, there is mostly medium to high forest fire danger there. The second-highest warning level of 4 is in effect for the Weida Forestry Office in eastern Thuringia and the Heldburg Forestry Office in southern Thuringia, according to an overview from the state forestry authority. At this level, public barbecue areas and fireplaces may be temporarily closed. The medium danger level of 3 is in effect for almost the entire rest of Thuringia. There are five forest fire warning levels in Thuringia.

Despite the heat warning on Tuesday, temperatures are anticipated to reach a peak of 35 degrees. The relief from the heat is expected after the Wednesday thunderstorms, with temperatures dropping to between 26 and 30 degrees.
