- Heat is holding in NRW at first <unk> a little cooling in sight
In the coming days, residents of North Rhine-Westphalia can expect not only hot days but also warm nights initially. "Temperatures will remain relatively high overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, reaching a minimum of 20 to 22 degrees," said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD) to the German Press Agency.
Today could challenge the state's annual temperature record of 35.4 degrees. DWD has issued an extreme heat warning for NRW. "Widespread temperatures will exceed 30 degrees. In some places, they could even reach 35 degrees or more," said the weather expert.
Still "relatively oppressive"
Scattered thunderstorms - locally with heavy rain, hail, and gusty winds - are expected throughout the day. "This is very localized, and most people in NRW will likely remain dry today," said the meteorologist. "However, it will look different on Wednesday, with showers and thunderstorms becoming more widespread."
Temperatures will decrease mid-week, reaching around 25 degrees along the Rhine and still around 30 degrees along the Weser. "Because it's very humid, it will feel relatively oppressive," explained the expert. At least by Thursday night, temperatures will drop slightly, reaching a minimum of 15 to 17 degrees.
To cool off at home during the heat, DWD recommends: "Ventilate sufficiently, not just at night. Ensure cross-ventilation or at least some air movement. A fan may not cool the air, but it helps moisture evaporate from your skin, leaving a cool sensation."
Unsettled weather for the weekend
Getting the heat out of homes and buildings will likely take a few more days. DWD expects warm temperatures of 25 to 28 degrees on Thursday. "It will mostly be dry. Isolated showers are possible," said the expert. Temperatures will drop to a cooler 15 to 17 degrees overnight into Friday.
Friday will have similar temperatures as the previous day, with mostly sunny skies, some variability, and strong cloud cover. Some rain is possible in the afternoon. The outlook for the weekend suggests unsettled weather. "It won't be as hot, but it will still be warm," said the expert.
The German Press Agency reported the meteorologist's prediction of high overnight temperatures in North Rhine-Westphalia. The German Press Agency also disseminated information about DWD's warning of extreme heat in North Rhine-Westphalia.
