Weather - Heat, cold and storms in Hesse in June
The June weather in Hessen was unpredictable, according to the German Weather Service's announcement on a Friday. After the so-called "Sheep Paralysis" in the second week, which was followed by high summer temperatures exceeding 30 degrees towards the end of the month, there was a period of time where a very humid subtropical air mass pressed down on general well-being, during which heavy thunderstorms, storms, heavy rain, and hail formed. The average temperature was 16.5 degrees, which was 1.3 degrees above the reference period of 1961 to 1990.
Unpleasant weather also affected the viewers of the European Championship match between Slovakia and Romania on June 26th in Frankfurt's stadium, as they were startled by a heavy lightning strike. On average, 88 liters of precipitation per square meter fell in the month. There were 210 sunshine hours.
DWD announcement
The DWD predicted a shift in weather conditions towards the end of June, warning of potential storms due to the approaching subtropical air mass. Despite the chilly weather that made the sheep feel cold in certain regions of Hesse, the official end of the month brought a much-needed break from the humidity with a decrease in precipitation. The following month in Offenbach saw a significant drop in the number of annual thunderstorms, contrasting the intense storm activity experienced during the last weeks of June.
