- Heat and storm warning in North Rhine-Westphalia
In North Rhine-Westphalia, one of the hottest days of the year has been recorded, and it remains summery and hot. The German Weather Service has issued an official heat warning for parts of the state for today as well.
"Exposure to heat can be dangerous for the human body and can lead to a variety of health issues," the DWD writes on its website. "Avoid the heat whenever possible, drink plenty of water, and keep indoor spaces cool."
However, people should also prepare for changing weather: In some regions, thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and lightning are expected with warm temperatures ranging from 26 to 31 degrees Celsius. While it will cool down slightly at night, there may also be some rain in the south. In the north, it will remain dry.
On Thursday, meteorologists expect many clouds and showers, with some areas experiencing heavy thunderstorms, hail, and gusty winds. Temperatures will again reach warm highs of 24 to 28 degrees Celsius. In many regions, it will continue to rain and thunder with a slight cooling overnight into Friday.
According to the DWD, the weather pattern will only change slightly over the weekend: With high temperatures of 23 to 27 degrees Celsius, it will only be slightly cooler.
The heat warning issued by the German Weather Service highlights the potential dangers of the current weather conditions. It's crucial to take necessary precautions, such as staying hydrated and seeking cooler indoor spaces, to avoid health issues caused by exposure to the heat.
Despite the ongoing heat, thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and lightning are forecasted in certain regions, adding another layer of weather-related caution for the public.
