The Lower Saxony Criminal Police Office is trying to fight domestic violence through an internet campaign and a new hiking exhibit. According to LKA President Friedo de Vries, the ongoing efforts and increased collaboration among support services haven't succeeded in reducing the number of such crimes. The police crime statistics from 2023 reveal a continuous increase - a whopping eleven percent hike in just one year, bringing the total incidents to 29,857 across Germany.

But that's not all. de Vries reveals that there's a huge underground aspect as well. In 2022, the LKA shared the findings of a 2020 survey, which showed that a mere 0.5 percent of domestic violence crimes within relationships or past relationships are reported to the police.

The exhibition, called "Heartbeat. When Love Turns Violent," will make its debut during a conference on Thursday (June 6) titled "Violence Against Women. Protection Through Prevention in Lower Saxony." After this event, the ten display stands will tour the country, appearing in places like schools and youth institutes.
