Statistics - Heart problems most common cause of hospitalization

Heart problems are the most common cause of hospitalization for people living in Saxony-Anhalt. The diagnosis of heart failure led to 17,037 hospital stays last year, the State Statistical Office announced in Halle on Wednesday. It was the most common reason for treatment in both women (8468) and men (8569). So-called atrial flutter or fibrillation was the second most common cause, followed by psychological behavioral disorders due to alcohol.

According to the data, around 515,500 people from Saxony-Anhalt were treated as inpatients in German hospitals in 2022. This was 0.2 percent more than in the previous year, but 16.4 percent less than in the pre-pandemic year 2019.
