Practice session for emergency situations - Healthcare professionals prepare for a crisis situation during the European Football Championships
During the European Football Championship, in a hypothetical situation where there's an explosion in a car on the fan mile on Straße des 17. Juni followed by a shootout resulting in hundreds of injuries, doctors and nurses from Berlin's Vivantes Clinic in Friedrichshain were prepared with a practice emergency on Tuesday night. In this scenario, 93 injured individuals were treated during the exercise at the Vivantes Clinic.
To prepare for the tournament, this unforeseen exercise was the seventh hospital exercise organized this year; all of which were aimed at getting ready for the event. Prior to this scenario, other mock situations entailed treating injured individuals within the fan mile, the area between Brandenburg Gate and Siegessäule, after an incident.
In Berlin hospitals, regular drills take place. The healthcare administration has disclosed that these drills are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the alarm system and the preparedness of various clinics' functioning domains. The government department for health then takes control during such emergencies.
