Health department: boiling ban in Eberbach remains in place

The boiling order issued on Wednesday for the drinking water network in Eberbach in the Rhine-Neckar district is being upheld. New samples had already been taken the day before and the analysis usually takes 48 hours, the district health authority announced on Thursday. So-called coliform germs had previously been detected in drinking water tests.

According to information from the Federal Environment Agency, such germs are particularly dangerous for people with health problems. They can cause wound infections, pneumonia and septicemia, among other things. They are also often resistant to antibiotics. In Eberbach, however, there have so far been no cases of illness in connection with the germs.

The boiling ban applies to the town of Eberbach itself as well as to the districts of Lindach, Friedrichsdorf, Gaimühle and parts of Pleutersbach and Rockenau. Preventive chlorination has also been introduced.

According to the public health department, the boiling ban applies until a chlorine concentration of at least 0.1 milligrams per liter can be detected in the entire affected pipe network. In this context, the authorities pointed out that water disinfected with chlorine is not suitable for aquariums.

The health department is advising residents in affected municipalities like Eberbach, Lindach, and Friedrichsdorf to boil their water due to the ongoing presence of harmful coliform germs. These bacteria can pose a threat to individuals with pre-existing health conditions, potentially causing infections such as wound infections, pneumonia, and septicemia.
