Actors - He was "the old man": Rolf Schimpf has to move at the age of 99

TV star Rolf Schimpf from the cult crime series "The Old Man" has had to give up his two-room apartment in a posh retirement home in Munich. Around two weeks ago, the 99-year-old moved to more affordable accommodation for financial reasons, his carer confirmed to the German Press Agency in Munich on Wednesday. The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported on this. Mr. Schimpf had wanted the move, the caregiver was quoted in the report. He is being well cared for in his new home.

According to the Augustinum residence, the actor moved there in 2010 with his wife, who died in 2015. The spokesperson did not give any details about the circumstances of Schimpf's departure. But if someone is generally unable to make ends meet, efforts are made to find solutions within the house, such as moving to a smaller apartment. An offer that Schimpf or his family have apparently not taken up.

The house gives an insight into its prices on its website. For example, a 56 square meter apartment with two rooms, balcony and shower room is available from around 3,400 euros, including a comprehensive package of services, according to the website.

Schimpf was born in Berlin on November 14, 1924. After starting out in the theater, he also appeared in front of the camera, for example in the ARD crime series "Tatort" and the ZDF series "SOKO 5113". He became a star through his role as a TV investigator in "Der Alte", in which he went on the hunt for criminals as Chief Inspector Leo Kresse for 20 years from 1986.
