Household - Hauk: Farmers have to bleed for traffic light mistakes
Baden-Württemberg's Minister of Agriculture, Peter Hauk (CDU), has sharply criticized the federal government's savings plans in the agricultural sector. Farmers would now have to bleed for the homemade mistakes of the traffic light coalition, Hauk said in Stuttgart on Thursday. "The cuts announced by the federal government to the tax refund for agricultural diesel and the exemption from vehicle tax in 2024 are a severe slap in the face for our farmers and are unacceptable." Hauk criticized the federal government's plans as preventing modern and internationally competitive agriculture.
Federal Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir (Greens) had also raised concerns about possible far-reaching savings in agriculture and warned against placing a disproportionate burden on the sector.
Following the historic budget ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, the coalition government reached an agreement on Wednesday on how it intends to close the billion-euro gap in the 2024 federal budget. Savings and cuts are planned that will also affect consumers in terms of electricity, gas and petrol prices. Savings are to be made primarily by abolishing climate-damaging subsidies, making cuts to the budgets of individual departments and reducing federal subsidies.
