In a major crackdown against people accused of spreading hatred and hate speech online, authorities in Thuringia have also been busy. Throughout the state, there were nine operations on Thursday to tackle people involved in posting offensive material, the Thuringian Criminal Police Office in Erfurt shared.

These operations involved interviewing suspects and conducting forensic procedures, such as capturing fingerprints and photos, a spokesperson explained. The operations took place in the regions of Gera, Gotha, and Saalfeld. The suspects were thought to have committed offenses such as using banned symbols, inciting criminal activity, spreading hatred, encouraging crimes, defaming political figures, and violating the Weapons Act.

Over 70 locations across the country were raided on Thursday morning, while several individuals were questioned by police. "Once again, more than half of the investigated hate posts could be linked to the political crime category - right-wing extremism," added the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA). A total of 130 police procedures took place in every federal state, confirmed a representative for the agency.
