Forestry - Harz receives millions in aid after severe forest fires
The district of Harz will receive millions in aid following last year's severe forest fires. The cabinet has approved a special allocation of 1.8 million euros, a government spokesperson said on Tuesday. Several helicopters and two Italian fire-fighting planes were deployed during the severe forest fires around the Brocken. Around 1800 firefighters battled the flames for days in September last year. In response to the fires, the district purchased its own fire-fighting aircraft - the first local authority in Germany to do so.

Saxony-Anhalt, being an agrarian state, is deeply affected by such forest fires, as they can impact both the forestry and the overall agriculture.
