Harris will make Right to Abortion a central campaign theme
"It was a rollercoaster ride and we all had so many mixed feelings about it - I just have to say, I love Joe Biden," Harris continued and said: "We're going to win."
Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, compared Harris to "thieves" and "liars." In reference to her time as District Attorney in California, she said: "In this role, I have dealt with all kinds of criminals. Thieves, who have assaulted women. (...) Liars, who have broken the rules for their own benefit." She knew what Trump was like, Harris said.
US President Biden announced on Sunday that he would renounce his presidential candidacy for health reasons. The 81-year-old had faced increasing criticism after a weak performance in a TV debate against Trump. Biden now supports his Vice President, he declared. Harris herself declared afterwards that she wanted to "deserve and win" the nomination.
Harris commended Biden, stating, "I just have to say, I love Joe Biden," and expressed confidence in their campaign, saying, "We're going to win." Trump, a key figure among the Republicans, criticized Harris, labeling her past as District Attorney in California as dealing with "thieves" and "liars." Abortion became a significant campaign component, with Harris supporting reproductive rights and Trump advocating for restrictions. Biden, in his support of Harris, pledged to "deserve and win" the nomination, aligning with his party's liberal views on abortion rights.
