Harris continues to accelerate towards US Presidency campaign

Harris attacks the Republican presidential candidate Trump in a one-minute and 20-second long campaign video. The Vice President speaks about people who want to live in a "land of chaos, fear, hate." Images of Trump and his vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance are shown in the video.

She then continues: "But we - we choose something Different. We choose freedom." The spot is accompanied by the song "Freedom" (Freedom) by US Pop diva Beyoncé.

In the short video, Harris promises to tackle gun violence and child poverty and to advocate for the right to abortion and universal healthcare. Harris also refers to Trump's legal issues, making him the first impeached former US President in the country's history.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) decided on Wednesday to choose the presidential nominee through electronic voting as early as early August instead of waiting for the party convention in Chicago from August 19-22. According to the rules, all candidates for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination must submit their applications by Saturday. If there is no other candidate besides Harris, electronic voting could begin on the coming Thursday. If there are other candidates, the start of the voting process could be delayed by a few days.

The decision had to be made in any case before the Chicago convention, where the nomination could only be formally confirmed.

On Thursday, a meeting with the US Teachers Union was on Harris' schedule to emphasize her "commitment to the working population in the whole of America." In the late afternoon (local time), a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was planned, who is currently on a visit to the US.

Meanwhile, the Republican candidate Trump attacked his expected opponent Harris in his usual aggressive tone at a rally in the state of North Carolina. He called her a "left-wing radical who will destroy our country." He also spread the false claim that Harris supports the "execution" of newborn babies.

In the right-wing US television channel Fox News, Trump accused Harris of owing her expected presidential nomination to a "coup" within the Democratic Party. "I think it was a coup. They didn't want him to run. He was way behind in the polls, and they thought he was going to lose," Trump said, looking at Biden. Biden was "pushed out" of the race for the Presidency.

As the alleged "coup" instigators, Trump named the former Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, former President Barack Obama - as well as "some others you see on TV."

Biden expressed the reasons for his withdrawal to the nation during a televised speech on a Wednesday evening. In his approximately eleven-minute statement, he said this was the best way to achieve unity in the party and in the country through a generational change and protect the democratic order. He stated, "I'm passing the torch to a new generation." This, he added, was the best way "to bring our nation together."

The 81-year-old announced that he intended to continue implementing his plans in the remaining months of his presidency, which ends in January, and focus on his "work as President." He mentioned reducing family living costs and stronger growth in the US economy. In foreign policy, he identified Putin's containment in the war against Ukraine and the ending of the Gaza War as priorities.

  1. In her campaign video, Vice President Harris criticizes the Republican presidential candidate Trump's vision of a "land of chaos, fear, and hate."
  2. Unlike Trump, Harris's video highlights her commitment to addressing issues like gun violence, child poverty, and advocating for abortion rights and universal healthcare.
  3. Interestingly, Harris also mentions Trump's legal issues, noting that he is the first impeached former US President in the country's history.
  4. After the Democratic National Committee announced electronic voting for the presidential nominee instead of the traditional convention in Chicago, Trump launched attacks on his presumed opponent Harris, calling her a "left-wing radical" who will destroy the country.
  5. In response to these attacks, former President Biden, who stepped down from the presidential race to allow Harris' US Presidential candidacy, stated that he was passing the torch to a new generation to bring unity and achieve a generational change.
