Statistics - Hardly any new residential buildings are being built in Saxony-Anhalt

The number of residential buildings in Saxony-Anhalt has only slightly increased recently. According to the Statistical Office, there were a total of 587,223 houses at the end of 2023 - from detached houses to apartment blocks. A year earlier, there were approximately 585,200. The statisticians estimate that there are around 417,700 detached houses in the country. Nearly 97,500 houses have three or more apartments. In addition, there are 356 apartment complexes.

Despite the declining population, the number of residential buildings has consistently increased, it was stated. This also applies to the living space available to people. The Statistical Office considers the classic detached house to be the big winner of development. In 2011, there were around 396,400 of these. By 2023, a plus of 5.4 percent had been recorded.

Regarding the numbers, it concerns a continuation based on the year 2011. The statisticians announced new figures for the end of the third quarter of 2024, which will be based on the Census 2022.

The State Office released data showing an increase in detached houses in Saxony-Anhalt, with 396,400 in 2011 rising to 412,724 by the end of 2023, representing a 2.8% growth. This growth in detached houses contributes to the overall increase in residential buildings in the region. Living in a detached house in Saxony-Anhalt has become more common, as per the latest Statistics. Additionally, the State Office reported a growth in residential buildings, with 587,223 houses at the end of 2023, including a significant number of detached houses.
