- Hanse Sail opens - hundreds of thousands of visitors expected
On a beautiful summer day, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Minister President Manuela Schwesig (SPD) opened the 33rd edition of the Hanse Sail, one of the world's largest gatherings of windjammers and traditional sailing ships, in the Baltic Sea resort of Warnemünde. Up to 500,000 visitors are expected to attend this maritime festival in the port of the Hanseatic city of Rostock and in Warnemünde until Sunday.
More than 100 traditional ships will be on display along the quays and at sea, including the German Navy's sail training ship "Gorch Fock" for the third consecutive year. "Rostock is showing its best side at the Hanse Sail," Schwesig emphasized. "There will be so much going on in the next few days: 200 concerts and events on 20 stages. I look forward to the Hanse Sail every year."
This year, the "Gorch Fock," at approximately 90 meters in length, is the largest traditional ship at the event. A full program will be offered on the stages from morning to evening throughout the four days of the event. This year's international partner country is Finland.
Visitors can enjoy the Hanse Sail until the event concludes on Sunday. During these few days, there will be over 200 concerts and events on various stages in Rostock and Warnemünde.
