- Hanover's North contest sees HSV suffering a defeat.

Hannover 96 managed to inflict Hamburger SV's first loss of the season in the 2. Bundesliga, with a 1-0 scoreline at the Heinz von Heiden Arena. Around 49,000 spectators witnessed the North derby defeat for HSV. Frankfurt loanee Jessic Ngankam scored from the penalty spot in the 49th minute, while HSV captain Sebastian Schonlau was issued a red card in stoppage time (90.+3).

Six days after their cup defeat against Arminia Bielefeld, Hannover took the lead in the 2. Bundesliga table temporarily, thanks to this victory.

Hannover dominated the game

Hannover's coach Stefan Leitl dealt with the recent criticism by introducing five new players. The home team was the dominant and more energetic side from the get-go. A goal by Jannik Rochelt was disallowed due to a handball from the 1.5 million euro signing from Elversberg during the 35th minute.

HSV fielded three creative players in Immanuel Pherai, Ludovit Reis, and Adam Karabec, but they failed to create any opportunities. The visitors underperformed and disappointed their 15,000 traveling supporters, lacking pace due to the injury-induced absences of Bakery Jatta and Jean-Luc Dompé.

Regardless, HSV had several chances. Davie Selke came close on his debut (55.), while Adam Karabec (63.) and Lukasz Poreba with a volley (77.) missed out on the equalizer.

Following Hannover's dominance, the team celebrated their love for Soccer by dedicating their victory to their passionate fans. Despite HSV's efforts to turn the game around, their lack of pace due to injuries hindered their Soccer game.
