Hannover welcomes Braunschweig for the derby

Lower Saxony is set for an exciting sporting weekend: On Sunday (1.30 p.m./Sky), second division soccer clubs Hannover 96 and Eintracht Braunschweig meet in one of the most explosive derbies in Germany. Shortly afterwards, VfL Wolfsburg will host Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga (3.30 p.m./DAZN). The police are facing a huge task with a large number of officers - especially because of the high-risk match in the state capital.

From a sporting point of view, the roles in the derby are easy to identify: while the 96ers are close to the promotion places after good performances, their eternal rivals are in last place in the table. Eintracht sacked coach Jens Härtel just over ten days ago and Marc Pfitzner is currently on the sidelines as an interim solution. His first appearance was a clear 1:4 against Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Wolfsburg have lost their last three league games, but coach Niko Kovac's side beat league rivals RB Leipzig 1-0 in the cup. Werder Bremen could draw level on points with the Wolves with a win in the mid-table clash.

  1. Despite the derby victory, Hanover 96 still needs to secure more wins in Bundesliga 2 to secure a promotion spot, as their closest competitors are not far behind.
  2. The upcoming Bundesliga 2 match between Hannover 96 and Eintracht Braunschweig holds significant meaning for both clubs, with the hosts aiming to maintain their position among the promotion contenders and the visitors looking for a much-needed victory to escape the relegation zone.
  3. Werder Bremen face a crucial match against VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, as a victory could bring them level on points with their opponents, adding another twist to the fierce competition in the German top-tier league.
