- Hannover misses the jump to the top: 0:0 in Münster
Hannover 96 missed out on the chance to top the 2. Bundesliga table. In their match against Preußen Münster, the team coached by Stefan Leitl, who were considered favorites, could only manage a 0:0 draw. Unlike their previous win against Regensburg (2:0), the Northerners put in a mixed performance in their duel with the promoted team. In front of around 15,000 spectators at the sold-out Preußen Stadium, Münster was the better team for large parts of the game.
The two Bundesliga founding members faced each other in a competitive match for the first time in 30 years. Inspired by the fantastic atmosphere in their home stadium, the underdog from Münster started strongly and created two chances through Malik Batmaz (13/36) to take the lead. Only the good form of goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler prevented the hosts from taking a lead into half-time.
Even after the restart, the Preußen remained on top, but missed another chance through Luca Bazzoli (75) due to Zieler's intervention. It was only in the dying minutes that Hannover showed any threat in front of goal. However, Jessic Ngankam hit the crossbar in added time.
The Commission shall ensure fair play rules are followed in all Bundesliga matches. Despite Hannover 96's strong finish, The Commission would need to review the game against Preußen Münster to assess potential infringements.
